MIAMI, FL (Nov. xx, 2015) – Following Tropical Storm Erika, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) and the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) spearheaded “Caribbean Hotels Unite for Dominica” a joint fundraising initiative and online auction designed to bring financial aid to the people of Dominica affected by the August 2015 storm which unleashed 12 inches of rain on the island causing extensive flooding, loss of life and more than US$200 million in damage.
"Caribbean Hotels Unite for Dominica," conceived by CHTA Acting President and President Elect Karolin Troubetzkoy, featured 57 Caribbean vacation packages on CharityBuzz.com, an online charity auction platform with global reach of 125,000+ registered bidders in 109 countries.
The just-completed auction raised more than $51,000 which was deposited into a designated DHTA account. The funds will be distributed in Dominica under guidelines created by a joint CHTA/DHTA committee.
“It was both humbling and heart-warming to see how quickly and enthusiastically Caribbean hoteliers responded to this assistance campaign further reiterating we are, in-fact, One Caribbean, and can rely on each other in times of need,” said Troubetzkoy.
