The Board of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) today announced the appointment of a new Chair, Mrs Karolin Troubetzkoy. Mrs Troubetzkoy has served as a CBF Director for the past 2 years.

A German-St. Lucian national, Mrs Troubetzkoy has made the Caribbean her home for four decades. At her day job, she is the Executive Director Marketing & Operations at Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet, a picturesque hotel and luxury resort in St.Lucia.

In recent years however, conservation and sustainable development within the Caribbean region has been her focus as she works to build more resilient island communities and develop regenerative approaches to travel and tourism.

Mrs. Troubetzkoy has served as president of both the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association; envoy for the Caribbean Challenge Initiative; and chair of the St. Lucia National Conservation Fund. She continues to be a staunch advocate for sustainable tourism development and environmental protection.

Former Chairman, Jens Mackensen in welcoming Karolin Troubetzkoy said, “we are pleased to elect Karolin as our new Chair of the CBF Board. She brings a wealth of experience and we trust that she will serve the CBF well as the organization sustains the region’s natural capital for the next 10 years”.

Since its establishment in 2012, the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund has provided funding for over 75 projects through its Conservation Finance and Climate Change (Ecosystem-based Adaptation Facility) programs.

The Conservation Finance Program provides financial resources through eligible National Conservation Trust Funds (NCTFs) who lead the grant-making process at the national level.

The Climate Change Program, through its Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Facility allows the CBF to distribute grants directly to local, national and regional projects through competitive calls for proposals with the aim of supporting effective climate change adaptation measures in the marine and coastal zone of the insular Caribbean.

By 2024, the CBF will be operating 6 sustainable financing programs and projects. The designs, conditionalities and geographic scope of which have already been formalized in agreements between the CBF and its donors.

A Vice-Chair Mrs. Brenda Boddie-John and Treasurer Glenn Bannister were also elected.

The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund’s visionary approach will result in the protection of the Caribbean’s vital natural resources at an unprecedented scale for generations to come.

About the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund

The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund was established in 2012 to create reliable, long-term funding for conservation and sustainable development in the Caribbean region. The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) is a regional umbrella environmental fund that uses a flexible structure to implement innovative solutions and consolidate resource mobilization in the Caribbean through a range of financial instruments. Currently, the CBF has two programs:

  • the Conservation Finance Program, based on an endowment fund, and
  • the Climate Change Program, focused on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) strategies.

A Nature-based Solutions program will be added to the CBF portfolio by October this year.
