Hotelier Hails Caribbean Olympians

ST. LUCIA (August 25, 2016) – A leading Caribbean hotelier congratulated all Olympians from, and of, the Caribbean, lauding them as ambassadors for their region.

“Allow us to join the legions of people congratulating you for your magnificent feats of physical and mental courage displayed for all the world to see at the 2016 Rio Olympics,” said Karolin Troubetzkoy, Executive Director of St. Lucia’s Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain resorts.

The St. Lucia hotelier, who also serves as President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, added: “For those of us who provide hospitality of our region to our many visitors it is a special joy to witness your successes because you are ambassadors for the Caribbean, who with your world class prowess and memorable personalities, prove to the world how our pristine water, land, air and nourishing communities produce outstanding champions.”

The Caribbean region collected 28 medals with Cuba and Jamaica tying for 11 medals apiece. The Bahamas collected two medals while Grenada, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago collected one each.

Troubetzkoy also highlighted the accomplishments of the numerous athletes of Caribbean ancestry, like the phenomenal gymnast Simone Biles, who represented other countries at the Games of the Olympiad.

She paid special tribute to St. Lucian athlete Levern Spencer who made the women’s high jump finals at the world’s biggest sporting spectacle. For this accomplishment, the hotelier awarded Spencer along with each of St. Lucia’s Olympic team members with a complimentary weekend stay at Anse Chastanet or Jade Mountain.

In addition to Spencer, the island was represented by Jahvid Best (Track & field); Jeanelle Scheper (Track & Field); Stephanie Devaux-Lovell (Sailing); and Jordan Augier (Swimming).
